Wings Over Wisconsin Chapters Support Outdoor Education at 2025 MOHEE Expo

Updated: Jun 3

Wings Over Wisconsin, a grassroots conservation organization dedicated to habitat restoration and outdoor education, played a meaningful role in this year’s Midwest Outdoor Heritage Education Expo (MOHEE), held May 14–15, 2025, in Poynette, Wisconsin.

This annual, free outdoor learning event is designed for students in grades 4 through 7 and provides a unique opportunity to extend classroom learning into the outdoors. With an open-house format, MOHEE encourages students to explore, engage, and connect with Wisconsin’s natural heritage through hands-on, mentored experiences.

This year, an estimated 3,338 students participated over the two-day event — 1,387 on May 14 and 1,951 on May 15 — making it one of the most impactful youth outdoor education events in the region.

Wings Over Wisconsin: Giving Back to the Outdoors

True to their mission of conservation and education, Wings Over Wisconsin chapters collectively donated $3,100 to help support this year’s expo. Their commitment didn’t stop at funding.

Volunteers Burt and Kim spent two full days at the event guiding students through the process of building their own bird feeders — a fun, hands-on activity that helps kids develop a deeper appreciation for wildlife and habitat stewardship. The Mayville Chapter of Wings Over Wisconsin generously donated all the materials needed for this interactive project.

Why MOHEE Matters

MOHEE is more than just a field trip — it's a gateway to lifelong outdoor skills. Students move between various interactive stations where they can try activities such as archery, fishing, wildlife identification, conservation crafts, and more. These experiences are led by trained safety instructors, educators, and volunteer mentors, offering students a safe and enriching environment to try new skills and discover new interests.

The expo also provides a platform for students and educators to meet representatives from local conservation groups and Wisconsin DNR programs. These connections help schools and families discover additional partners and programs available for continued outdoor learning and mentorship throughout the summer and beyond.

A Shared Mission

Wings Over Wisconsin’s involvement in MOHEE reflects its broader mission: to preserve Wisconsin’s outdoor heritage through education, conservation, and community engagement. The organization's partnership with events like MOHEE ensures that the next generation gains both the knowledge and passion needed to care for Wisconsin’s rich natural resources.
